In one of our house to house visits, we came upon this traditional musical instrument, the "Gulingtangan".
Gulingtangan is normally played in ceremonies such weddings, official launching, awards ceremony, gatherings, etc. Gulingtangan, which consists of 8 small gongs (see photos), is normally played with other musical instruments of its type such as the Gendang Labik (Drum) Tawak-Tawak, Canang 1 & 3 as well as the 2 Big Gongs.
A lot of schools in Brunei have been actively promoting these instruments to their students. Clubs have been formed in schools. Competitions are held at district and national levels. My sincere congratulations to those who has mastered the Gulingtangan because it is not an easy instrument to play.
I managed to pursuade Nini Haji to play a few songs for us, and of course I managed to capture this beautiful moment to be share with all of you.
Looking back to yesteryears, one of many Nini Haji's memorable moments was during the time he performed with members of his gang from Kampung Penanjong. Luckily, this was capture in Cassette and we were fortunate enough to be given the chance to listen to it.
