In one of our house to house visits, we came upon this traditional musical instrument, the "Gulingtangan".
Gulingtangan is normally played in ceremonies such weddings, official launching, awards ceremony, gatherings, etc. Gulingtangan, which consists of 8 small gongs (see photos), is normally played with other musical instruments of its type such as the Gendang Labik (Drum) Tawak-Tawak, Canang 1 & 3 as well as the 2 Big Gongs.
A lot of schools in Brunei have been actively promoting these instruments to their students. Clubs have been formed in schools. Competitions are held at district and national levels. My sincere congratulations to those who has mastered the Gulingtangan because it is not an easy instrument to play.
I managed to pursuade Nini Haji to play a few songs for us, and of course I managed to capture this beautiful moment to be share with all of you.
Looking back to yesteryears, one of many Nini Haji's memorable moments was during the time he performed with members of his gang from Kampung Penanjong. Luckily, this was capture in Cassette and we were fortunate enough to be given the chance to listen to it....The Gulingtangan - a traditional musical instrument...

Jollibee Tutong opens
Jollibee opened it new branch in Tutong on Friday 26th October 2007. The whole family has been looking forward to this day, i.e. since the news/signs about it appeared more than a month ago. We love Jollibee foods and would go all the way to Yayasan, Delima, the Mall or Utama Bowling branches to enjoy their cheezy fries, chicken curry, beef burger, chicken burger, spaghetti, chickenjoy, pearl coolers, etc. We just hope the service at this new branch is on par if not surpass the services given by the other branches.
For the Grand Opening at Tutong, there will be fabulous prizes to be won, free balloons and mascot appearances for the first 3 days. On opening day itself, free gifts have been given to the 1st 20 customers.
We came in late. Kraja wa. So no free gifts, no more free balloons and we missed the mascot appearance. We only get 2 fabulous prizes from the pick & win counter.
As published in Borneo Bulletin, the times for mascot appearances will be:
Oct 26 - 10am & 4pm, Oct 27 & 28 - 12nn & 5.30pm

[The following information is extracted from Jollibee Food Corporation - The Official Website]
Jollibee is one of the Philippines' phenomenal business success stories. Starting in 1975 as a two-branch ice cream parlor, it later expanded its menu to include hot sandwiches and other meals. With encouraging success, Jollibee Foods Corporation was incorporated in 1978 with seven outlets to fully explore the possibilities of a hamburger concept. Thus was born the company that revolutionized the fast food industry in the Philippines.
In 1984, Jollibee reached the P500 million sales mark, catapulting the company into the list of Top 500 Philippine Corporations. In 1987, barely 10 years in the business, the company joined the ranks of the Philippines' Top 100 Corporations. It then became the first Philippine fast food chain to break the P1 billion sales mark in 1989. In 1993, Jollibee became the first food service company to be listed in the Philippine Stock Exchange; thus broadening its capitalization and laying the groundwork for sustained expansion locally and beyond the Philippines.
Jollibee is the Philippine's leading fast food chain. The size, geographic expanse and breadth of the company's operations have grown exponentially - from a handful of Jollibee stores twenty-eight years ago to over 570 stores in the Philippines and 27 international stores in countries like the United States, Hong Kong and Brunei. It is now an international brand with phenomenal milestones.

Our Open House on Friday 19/10
On behalf of the family, I would like to record our appreciation and special thanks to all our guests, who have came to our Hari Raya Open House yesterday. THANK YOU for your time and we apologise if we did not spend as much time with you.
I did not take a lot of photo yesterday and I do not think Fazleen did too. We were just too busy and excited to meet you all. However, I will share some of the photos we barely managed to capture. Perhaps, next year we can engage a professional photographer. *wink* *wink* to e.n.o.y
Lastly, we would like to wish you a pleasant and memorable Hari Raya and we seek your forgiveness for our past wrongdoings. May Allah bless us all. See you again next year.
